Feel Like a Wallflower? Maybe It’s Your Facebook Wall

This week in my MED 130 class, we were given an article named “Feel Like a Wallflower? Maybe It’s Your Facebook Wall”. This specific article was written by Jenna Wortham of The New York Times. Jenna explains how she feels the “FOMO” syndrome. FOMO means the fear of missing out. Jenna stated that she would be on her couch watching Netflix at night but then she see’s her friends on social media and posting pictures of their night on the town. Jenna instantly felt regret and wanted to go out.

Technology is the cause of FOMO. Without technology, we aren’t distracted with what others are doing in the social media world. Unfortunately, it isn’t always easy to put down the phone and look at what is in front of us. And nowadays, the next generation will only know of this. Social interaction in person will be slowly fading as life goes on if we want to believe it or not. This post was very helpful because I thought that this was just only going on in MY mind. I hate when I’m laying in bed but my friends are posting about how much fun they’re having. #1 app for this issue is Snapchat and the Snapchat stories.
